Alaska State Troopers Wednesday released the name of a 16-year-old Kenai youth seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident near Cooper Landing.

Russell H. Robinson III, was listed in guarded but serious condition at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage.

According to troopers, Robinson was southbound on Sterling Highway at about 9:30 a.m. Monday, when he apparently fell asleep and his vehicle went over an embankment and hit a tree.

A trooper spokesman said Robinson was fortunate that someone saw his vehicle go off the road and called for help immediately because the vehicle landed in a spot not visible from the highway and may have gone unnoticed for some time.

Robinson was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, but sustained serious injuries.
