Wildlife refuge hosts nature walks, films

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge's summer series of nature walks are from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (except July 30) on the Keen Eye Trail. Round trip walking distance is one-half mile. Participants are asked to wear comfortable shoes and to leave dogs at home. Admission is free.

Visitor center hours are weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and weekends 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 262-7021.

Running club to meet

The North Peninsula Recreation Service Area running club for those in seventh grade and older meets at 6 p.m. Mondays until Sept. 27. The club will run on the Nikiski Middle-Senior High School track and trails. It will provide an opportunity for community runners to gather, familiarize runners with the NPRSA trails and provide individualized training for those who desire assistance. Summer camp continues in Nikiski

The North Peninsula Recreation Service Area's summer day camp is held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children meet at the Nikiski pool on Tuesdays and at the Nikiski Middle-Senior High School on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children in grades one through six are eligible to attend. Activities include arts and crafts, games, sports, swimming, gym time, pottery and cooking. Preregistration is not required, and drop-ins are welcome. Health services collaborative to meet

The Health Services Opportunities Collaborative will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Kenai Public Health building. The collaborative meets monthly to consider ways to improve access to health care for the uninsured and underinsured. Its goal is to achieve better communication and health care services for those in need. All interested agencies and the public are invited to attend. Neighborhood watch meeting set

A Neighborhood Watch meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Calvary Baptist Church at 208 Lawton Drive in Kenai. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call Kathy at 283-5256 or Sheryl at 283-5296.

Langdon basketball camp set for Seward

The third annual Trajan Langdon Lace 'em Up Basketball Camp will be held July 19-23 in Seward. Children in grades four through 12 are eligible to attend. The cost is $300 for overnight campers or $250 for commuter campers.

Three meals per day will be provided and prepared by chefs. Twenty college athletes and coaches will help instruct. Hiking, sightseeing, swimming and competitive basketball will take place during camp. Space is limited. For more information, call (907) 258-2228.

Low cost helmets available

The Kenai Peninsula Safe Kids for the central peninsula has low cost helmets available. Bike helmets are $5 and multi-sport helmets are available or $10. For more information, call Jane at 714-4539 or Dr. McCord's office at 262-5472.
