Longtime Soldotna resident Nadine Betty Jo Hollis died Friday, July 8, 2005, at Nicholson's Assisted Living in Kenai after an extended illness. She was 77.
A private family service will be held.
Mrs. Hollis was born Dec. 6, 1928, in Aberdeen, Wash., where she grew up and raised a family of five children. Following the death of her second husband, Robert, she and her youngest sons, Robert and John, moved to Soldotna in 1983 to be close to her daughter, Julie West.
In 1990, she returned to Aberdeen to get away from Alaska's winter, but came back each summer to be near her grandsons, Jonas and Robert. In Aberdeen, she lived with her life-long friend Shirley Dodd. Due to declining health, she returned to Soldotna in 2000 where she could be better cared for by her family.
"Nadine enjoyed crocheting, doll making and her 'grand-dog' Tyson. Her first, last and greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her life's greatest accomplishment was to pass on her love of family to her children," her family said.
Mrs. Hollis is survived by her five children, Michael McNaull of Florida, Julie West of Soldotna, Bob Hollis Jr. of Anchorage, John Hollis of Soldotna and Debra Wiltbank of Washington; grandchildren, Angie Richardson, Jonas West, Dustin Culbertson (Hollis), Robert Hollis and Jessica McNaull; great-grandchildren, Colton and Travis Richardson and Kylee Woodford; and sister, Dorthy Shaw of Cosmopolis, Wash.
