Progress Days gearing up

Applications for the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce’s annual Progress Days parade are available online at or by visiting the chamber office. The parade will take place July 22.

Vendor space also is available for the Progress Days festival, which runs July 22 and 23 in Soldotna Creek Park. For more information, call 262-9814.

PFLAG to meet

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays will meet at 6 p.m. today. For more information and the location of meeting, call 283-4678.

Canner gauge testing available

The Cooperative Extension Service is offering free testing of pressure canner dial gauges from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday at its office in the Doors and Windows building on Kalifornsky Beach Road.

Historical society to meet

The Kasilof Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the McLane Center. Following the business meeting, a tour of the area where Alaska Packers had its cannery will be held. Included in the tour will be the watchman’s house and cemetery. It is open to the public. For more information, call 262-2439.

Volunteers sought to build

Central Peninsula Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers for its home building construction site at 209 Cottage St. in Kenai (from the Kenai Spur Highway go three blocks south on Linwood Lane, turn right (east) onto Colonial Drive and go one block to Cottage Circle. The house is on your right). Framing began June 26. Builders are needed Tuesdays through Saturdays. For more information, call 283-7797.

Montessori holds open house

Kenai Montessori School will host an open house from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at 220 Main Street Loop Suite B, directly across the street from the Kenai Fire Department. Parents of children that will enter kindergarten in the fall are invited to attend. A tour of classrooms and information about Montessori education will be presented.
