Twins split with South

The American Legion Twins earned a split with South on Sunday in Anchorage.

In the first game, the Twins came back to tie the game at 6 with two runs in the top of the ninth inning, but South scored in the bottom of the inning for a 7-6 victory.

Both teams were hurt by errors in the game. The Twins had five errors, so only three runs given up by Twins pitchers were earned. South had three errors, so only four of the runs the Twins scored were earned.

Jake Lamphier got the start for the Twins had pitched 5 2-3 innings while giving up nine hits and five runs — one earned. Daniel Hepner pitched 2 1-3 innings and gave up one earned run on two hits, while Jordan Waters pitched 1-3 of an inning and gave up the winning run.

Luke Oliver was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Twins, while Ethan Waters was 2-for-4.

In the second game, the Twins jumped out to a 5-0 lead after their half of the second inning and held on for a 5-4 victory.

Jake Simpson pitched 5 1-3 innings and gave up four runs — three earned — to notch the victory. Ben Stalker pitched 1 2-3 innings of scoreless and hitless baseball to earn the save.

Oliver scored two runs for the Twins, while Luke Gilbert was 2-for-4 and Simpson helped his own cause with two RBIs.
