Events, wedding, engagements and birth submissions may not be older than six months. Wedding anniversary announcements are printed in five-year increments beginning with the 20th.

Hazardous waste disposal dates set

The Central Peninsula Landfill Hazardous waste disposal collection times are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following dates: July 17, Aug. 14, Sept. 18 and Nov. 20.

Businesses must pre-register by calling Burlington Environmental at 1-800-478-9008.

Food bank seeks items

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank is seeking the following items: letter sized copy paper, silverware, re-sealable plastic bags (all sizes), sealing tape, Corelle soup bowls, scotch tape, plastic gloves (medium and large), plastic grocery bags, garbage bags (33 and 45-50 gallon).

Birthday bag items needed for youth ages 12 years old and under are: cake mixes, frosting, candles, plates, napkins, balloons and small stuffed toys. Items for youth over 12 years old needed are re-gifted gifts, seasonal items and large baskets. For more information, call 262-3111.


Hendersons have a boy

Lila and Reuben Henderson of Nikiski announce the birth of their son, Victor Courage Henderson, at 6:17 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at home with the help of Woman's Way Midwifery. He weighed 8 pounds and measured 21.75 inches.

He joins siblings Hosanna, Jubilee, Maranatha, Zion, and Joy. His grandparents are Jim and Carla Henderson of Hickory, N.C. and John and Carol Broussard of Nikiski.


Volleyball camps set

All American Volleyball Camps and Peninsula Midnight Sun Volleyball Club are hosting a Skills Camp at Soldotna and Skyview High Schools August 3-5. AAVC features skill instruction from top college, U.S. National Team, and professional players. They have conducted High School Camps on the Kenai Peninsula for over 15 years, and past coaches included former Olympians and national college Players of the Year.

Camp is open to players entering grades 8-11 next fall. Coaches will focus on skill instruction, but include drills that combine skills in game-like conditions. The coach to player ratio is 1:12. Camp is limited to the first 48 applicants and is open to players from throughout the peninsula.

Camp will run from 9:00- 11:30am and 12:30-3:00pm on Tuesday and Wednesday with a final session from 6:00-8:30 Thursday night. The cost is $140. Contact your middle School or High School Coach or Bruce King ( or 262-9501) to sign up.

A brief explanation of the photo, the pet's and owner's names, owner's address and phone number must be included.

Toddler playgroups planned

Frontier Community Services Infant Learning Program will host outside playgroups open to the public Wednesdays through Aug. 4. Playgroups will meet from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Farnsworth Park on Birch Lane in Soldotna, and from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Kenai Municipal Park on South Forest Drive in Kenai.
