Posted: Sunday, July 11, 2010

The Peninsula Oilers improved to 18-11 in the Alaska Baseball League with a 5-3 win over the visiting Anchorage Bucs on Saturday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park. The Oilers host the Bucs today at 2 p.m.

Tyler Grimes, who went 2-for-4, led the charge with three runs scored, three stolen bases and an RBI. Patrick Wisdom and Mike Miller each went 3-for-4.

Two Peninsula errors led to a Bucs run in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3 in favor of the Oilers. But the Oilers responded in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own. Stephen Piscotty brought Grimes home with a two-out single.

Grimes broke a 2-2 tie with a two-out, RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning. Grimes scored on a Ryan Gebhart single to give the Oilers a 4-2 lead.

Oilers starter Jake Sabol hit a batter and walked another to put runners on the corners in the top of the third. Eddie Rohan brought both home with a double to give the Bucs a 2-1 lead.

Patrick Wisdom ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2.

The Oilers got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning. After a leadoff single by Patrick Wisdom, Jeff Popick drew a walk. Mike Miller then hit an RBI single to score Wisdom and give Peninsula a 1-0 lead.

Sabol gave up just three hits in five innings and recorded the win.
