New principals selected

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District announced the hiring of two new principals and two assistant principals at Monday's school board meeting.

n Tustumena Elementary: Ken Halverson will replace Lisa Stroh, who resigned, at the school in Kasilof.

Halverson comes to the peninsula from Dillingham, where he has worked as superintendent of the Dillingham City School District since 1997. Before coming to Alaska, he lived in Montana where he worked as an elementary teacher, principal and superintendent.

He holds a master's degree in administration from the University of Montana in Missoula.

n McNeil Elementary: Peter Swanson will be the new principal at the school east of Homer.

Swanson has been serving as the assistant principal of Blatchley Middle School in Sitka. Before coming to Alaska in 1998, he worked as a teacher, dean of students and principal in California.

He holds a master's degree in educational administration from California State University at Sacramento.

n Soldotna High School: Sean Dusek will be the new assistant principal.

Dusek had been working as a math teacher and athletic director at Soldotna Middle School since 1997. He also taught at Skyview High School from 1993 to 1997.

He holds a master's degree in education from the University of Alaska Southeast.

n Kenai Middle School: Lori Manion will be the new assistant principal.

Manion worked as a math teacher at Nikiski Middle-Senior High School.

She holds a master's degree in secondary educational administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
