ANCHORAGE (AP) -- U.S. customs officials at the Alaska Highway Port Alcan station on Tuesday arrested a man trying to walk into Canada who had escaped from the Palmer Correctional Center the day before.

Michael Kolkman was serving a sentence for sexual assault of a minor. Inspectors at the border station recognized him from a U.S. Customs bulletin.

Alaska State Troopers in Northway transported the man to the Fairbanks Correction Center, where he will stay until his return to Palmer.
