Return of flowers puts color back in summer

Posted: Tuesday, July 12, 2005

Alaskans herald our summers by planting flowers. Soldotna residents plant flowers at the four corners of their streets, have hanging baskets, garden boxes and window boxes and flowers are blooming everywhere.

The season is short but the colors and the varieties make our summer season that much more enjoyable not only for those of us who plant but all our many visitors. The Soldotna Post Office has two barrels of bright red and yellow flowers for the customers to enjoy before they enter the post office.

Over the holiday weekend one of the barrels was taken. The Soldotna Post Office sends a great big thank you to the concerned citizen who witnessed our flower barrel being taken and reported the incident to the police. The combined efforts of the Kenai and Soldotna Police Departments brought about the return of our flower barrel so we can all enjoy the bright colors of summer.

Thank you again to all who helped.
