Football camp starts Monday

The Kenai Peninsula Football Camp begins Monday. The camp is open to all Pop Warner age players and will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day Monday through July 20 at the Soldotna High School football field. The cost of the camp is $50.

Twins beat Fairbanks squad

The Kenai American Legion Post 20 Twins baseball team defeated Fairbanks 5-1 Tuesday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.

The Twins will square off with Fairbanks again today in a double-header starting at 12:30 p.m.

In Tuesday’s game, the Twins trailed by a run before tying the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jordan Waters drew a walk, advanced on an error and scored on a groundout by Jake Simpson.

The Twins broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Luke Gilbert crossed the plate on a passed ball after singling to lead off the inning, Waters hit an RBI double, Simpson hit an RBI triple, and Shawn Isaacs drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.

Kevin Epperheimer went the distance to pick up the win for the Twins, striking out six and walking three while giving up one run on six hits.
