Festival suggestion: patriotic songs in, dogs out

Posted: Monday, July 12, 2010

The July 4th celebration in Kenai was wonderful! Lots of good food and entertainment, but I have two issues I think would make it even better, next year.

One, dogs brought by their owners to this event -- and virtually every group event I go to.

I am not a dog hater, but there are times when owners should leave their pets at home.

Many small children are afraid of large dogs approaching them, no matter how friendly they may be.

I don't like dogs sniffing or licking me and even when owners clean up after them, having dogs pooping among people enjoying their food, is not a pretty sight.

So I would ask that responsible owners leave their dogs at home when attending group festivals, like the upcoming Progress Days celebration.

Second, I loved the musical entertainment, but wish there could have been at least one patriotic song played, on July 4th.

Wouldn't it have been fun, if each group played one patriotic song giving it their own particular rendition?

I would have loved to hear the Smith Family play and sing our National anthem, and would bet that would have brought tears to many eyes.

I hope those who organize this terrific event, would consider these two suggestions.
