Many contribute to success of state Republican convention

The Alaska Republican Party State Convention was a resounding success. This would not have been possible without the help of some very special people. We would like to thank:

Jeremey Ley with the city of Soldotna for being a miracle worker in the realm of technology. Andrew Carmichael and his staff, especially Dale Hedger, were wonderful in putting up with our many requests at the Soldotna Sports Center. The Aspen Hotel hosted convention participants. Rebecca Sorenson was very helpful in setting up the ARP Registration and Welcoming Reception. Mike at the Music Box did a fine job making sure everyone was heard with the sound system. George at Sonoma Florists created the beautiful red, white and blue flower arrangements that graced the podium, stages and tables. Thanks also to Randy and Mary Daly at Hi Speed Gear for numerous copy jobs and copiers.

Isabelle's Fine Catering and Charlotte's Restaurant did an awesome job in serving close to 500 for lunch and dinner. The Peninsula Steakhouse and The Moose is Loose provided delicious breakfasts. The caterers received rave reviews for the excellent food. Doug Blossom donated 250 pounds of halibut, filleted and prepared by Deep Creek Seafood Packing. BJ's set up the no-host bar.

A big thank you goes to those who helped out during the convention: our Soldotna Mayor Dave Carey for the invocation, Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Dale Bagley for the pledge and introductions, Herb Stettler for the VFW Honor Guard presentation, Pastor Renee Duncan for singing "There She Stands," a tribute to the flag, and Kelsey Leaf who sang the national anthem. Special entertainment by the Glacier View Baptist Church Mimes, a group of students who performed mime routines to two songs, was outstanding.

Local teens who served as pages were Danielle Duncan, Lily Smith, Amy Shoemaker, Billy Spires, Susan Lockwood and Kaitlin Vadla.

Clem Tillion and District 35 Republicans contributed seed money. Sen. Lisa Murkowski's campaign, manned by Barb Blakeley and Pam Houston, supplied the daily coffee service. The Stevens, Young and Murkowski campaigns provided Friday's breakfast.

The workers behind the scenes were the Kenai Peninsula Republican Women Grace Merkes, Diane DuPerron, Hope Haselow, Kay Tauriainen, Marge Brittain, Eileen Becker, Nikki Welles, Janice Rodes, Michelle Blackwell, Esther Rhines, Janet Clucas and Kathy Jackinsky; District 33 and 34 Ed Oberts, Mike Tauriainen, Doug Blossom and Dave Carey; the Young Republicans Neal DuPerron; and the College Republicans Casey Reynolds.

All your efforts paid off!! Thank you from the Alaska Republican Party, Districts 33, 34 and 35.

Leona Oberts, Assistant secretary

Alaska Republican Party, Soldotna
