Chambers set schedules

· The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Tuesday at the Riverside House in Soldotna. Rod Phelger of the NorthWest Cruiseship Association will be the speaker. For more information, call Michelle at 262-9814.

· The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Wednesday at Paradisos in Kenai. The speaker will be Ralph Samuels, the District 29 (Anchorage) representative for the Alaska House of Representatives. For more information, call 283-7989.

Kasilof Salmon Derby gets under way

The Kasilof Eagles are sponsoring a fund-raising king salmon derby from Saturday through June 29. Daily and weekly prizes will be awarded for the largest and smallest fish, with official weigh-ins taking place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cohoe Cove Campground in Kasilof and daily prizes awarded at 9 p.m. nightly at the Kasilof Eagles. Grand prizes will be announced at a barbecue to be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kasilof Eagles. The entry fee is $10 a day. For more information, call 262-7623.

Home Depot holds workshops

The Home Depot in Kenai will host the following free workshops in July: one called “Create a pavestone walkway” at 7 p.m. Thursdays through July 20; “Installing hardwood flooring” at 10 a.m. Saturdays through July 22 and “Selecting, maintaining and cleaning carpet” at 1 p.m. Sundays through July 23.

The store will host an event weekend on the topic of energy efficiency July 27-30, with a workshop on energy efficient lighting upgrades at 7 p.m. on July 27, one on energy efficient cooling systems at 10 a.m. on July 29 and one on selecting and installing energy efficient doors and windows on July 30 at 1 p.m. For more information on the workshops, call (800) 430-3376 or visit
