Paddle, bike, run for Chugach Forest

To celebrate the 99th birthday of the Chugach National Forest, a 20-mile long triathlon is planned July 29. The Chugach Challenge begins at 1 p.m., rain or shine, at Summit Lake Lodge, Mile 45.5 of the Seward Highway, and includes paddling 5 kilometers across Summit Lake, a 20-kilometer road bike ride and a 5-kilometer trail run.

Individuals and relay teams are asked to preregister by today. Preregistration costs $50 per person or $100 per team. After today, registration will cost $60 per person and $120 per team.

Canner gauge testing available

The Cooperative Extension Service is offering free testing of pressure canner dial gauges from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday at its office in the Doors and Windows building on Kalifornsky Beach Road. For more information, call 262-5824.

Montessori holds open house

Kenai Montessori School will host an open house from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at 220 Main Street Loop, Suite B, across the street from the Kenai Fire Department. Parents of children who will enter kindergarten in the fall are invited to attend. A tour of classrooms and information about Montessori education will be presented. Soldotna grads to get together

The Soldotna High School class of 1996 reunion will be held July 21-23. At 6 p.m. July 21, graduates and their families will meet at Hooligan’s Saloon in Soldotna; at 7:30 p.m. July 22 they will meet for dinner at Paradiso’s restaurant in Kenai; and at 11 a.m. July 23 there will be a picnic at Kenai Municipal Park.

KPBSD plans Title Vll meeting

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District will hold a Title Vll Indian Education Parent Advisory Committee meeting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Borough Building in Conference Room A. It is open to the public. For more information or to RSVP call 714-8892, ext. 8866.

Safe Sitter courses offered

Central Peninsula General Hospital will hold a Safe Sitter course from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 3 and 4 at the hospital. Children must be 11 years-old at the time of class and must preregister.
