Carnival, spaghetti feed set

A fundraiser to help pay for medical cost for Grayson McCaughey, 14, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Lighthouse Community Church in Nikiski.

Auctions, raffles, pace painting, bounce house, pony rides, cotton candy, snow cones, 30 foot slide, paint ball and dinner are some of the planned activities.

Seniors plan events

Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will host a bazaar, bake sale and quilt show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 24 and 25 at the center. There will be a selection of crafts, baked goods and quilts. Lunch will be available.

The center's Endowment Trust Funds' will host a chili cook-off from 1 to 3:30 p.m. July 25 at the center. To participate or for more information, call 262-2322.

Weight training continues

Skyview High School athletes may attend physical training sessions from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The weight room also will be open to incoming eighth-grade athletes. Coaches will supervise the strength and conditioning programs.

Nutrition classes slated

Colleen Sonnevil of the Cooperative Extension Service will teach "Harvesting and Processing Alaska's Bounty". Learn how to harvest and process seasonal foods that are found on the Peninsula. Classes will be Thursdays from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Fireweed Diner at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. The first class will be a fish filleting demonstration. Kenai pool sets summer hours

The Kenai Central High School pool's hours will be from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday -- lap swim; 8 to 9 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday -- swim workout for swim team or adults ($35 for a punch card or $4 a day); and from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Monday and Friday -- open swim.

Swim lesson times are 9 to 9:40 a.m., 9:45 to 10:25 a.m., 10:30 to 11:10 a.m., 11:15 to 11:55 a.m., noon to 12:30 p.m. (3 and 4 year olds) and private lessons 3 to 3:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 4 p.m. For more information, call 283-7476.
