MediCare to be discussed today

The program manager of Alaska's Medicare Information Office will give a workshop from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center.

Topics will include Part A and B coverage, switching Prescription Drug Plans, the "donut hole," financial assistance, when to enroll and more. There will be time for questions.

Attendees are asked to bring red, white and blue Medicare card and other health insurance information such as Prescription Drug Plan card or plan information, Medicare Summary Notices, and Social Security or Medicare supplement mailings.

Class of 1999 to gather Friday

The Skyview High School class of 1999 reunion will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Froso's Restaurant in Soldotna with a bar night to follow at Hooligans. On Saturday a barbecue will be held at noon at Soldotna City Park. For more information or to RSVP e-mail

Unity run set to take off

The sixth annual Kenai/ Soldotna Unity run will be held July 18 on the Unity Trail between Kenai and Soldotna.

The event is coordinated by the Kenai, Soldotna and Kenai River Rotary clubs as a fundraiser to benefit community and international projects. The run includes a 5K and 10 mile event and is geared toward all levels of ability.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at Soldotna High School. Runners may register the day of the event, or go to for advance registration. To become an event sponsor, call 252-7252 or for race information, call 953-2576.

Ham fest tunes in

The Moosehorn Amateur Radio Club will sponsor a Hamfest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. JSaturday at the Borough Emergency Management Building on Wilson Way in Soldotna.

Amateur radio operators and the general public are invited. Tables are available to rent for radio related electronic equipment at 9 a.m. License testing will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

SoHi's class reunion looms

Soldotna High School 20th class reunion will be held July 24 through 26. Classmates are asked to RSVP to Barb at

The cost is $60 per adult for the weekend. Children are free to the family picnic on Sunday. A meet and greet will be held at The Duck Inn Restaurant & Bar around 7 p.m. or on July 24. The restaurant side will available for those who want to visit in a smoke-free environment. The dinner evening will be July 25 at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Anyone who can help decorate Saturday morning at 10 a.m. would be appreciated. Dinner will be catered and arrival time is 5:30 p.m. Appetizers will be served at 6 p.m. and dinner around 6:30 p.m. A DJ will play music and a no-host bar will be available. The family picnic will start at 1 p.m. July 26 at Johnson Lake's Day use facility in Kasilof. Burgers, hot dogs and soda will be provided. Graduates are asked to bring a salad, side dish, dessert or other. Chamber seeks vendors and parade entries

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce is taking applications for the Progress Days parade and vendor spaces. Progress Days is scheduled for July 25 and 26.

The deadline for vendor forms is July 17. Spaces are $35 each. Forms received after July 17 will cost $45 each. Call 262-9814 for more information.

Nikiski's class of '99 to meet

Nikiski's Class of 99 will hold its 10-year reunion July 24 through 26.
