Alyeska Sales & Service celebrates 25th Anniversary on the Kenai Peninsula

Posted: Tuesday, July 15, 2003

It all started in May, 1978 when Jerry Wortham and George Navarre began the first Alyeska Sales & Service in Kenai.

Jerry has been the sole owner since 1986 and has since expanded his business to three additional locations on the peninsula. He opened the Soldotna store on the Kenai Spur in 1989, followed by the K-Beach location in 2002. The newest location is in Homer which opened in February, 2003.

The crowd enjoyed music and food at Alyeska's BarBQ celebration.

In honor of the quarter of a century, the staff helped convert a pick-up truck into a bar-b-q by removing the engine and modifying the compartment to accomodate plenty of ribs, steaks and other sorts. The bed has been converted and lined with insulation and is used as an ice chest. The truck bears the name, "Alyeska Tire & Ribs."
