Industry Appreciation Day in works

The 12th annual Industry Appreciation Day celebration will take place Aug. 28 in Kenai at the Main Street Loop park strip next to the softball fields.

This free annual event honors working men and women, and the businesses they work for, in the oil and gas, commercial fishing and tourism industries of the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Awards will be presented to the outstanding individuals and businesses in each of these industries.

There will be live entertainment, games for kids and adults, free prizes and fun for everyone, say organizers.

Highlights will include the barbecue buffet that will serve free hamburgers, hot dogs and "Kenai Wild" brand salmon, as well as all the fixings to everyone who attends. There also will be dozens of booths and displays by local businesses and organizations.

In addition, there will be the annual chili cook off competition, hosted by Kenai Mayor John J. Williams, for the trophy and bragging rights for the Kenai Peninsula Borough's best chili.

The deadline for nominating individuals and businesses for their contributions to their particular industry is July 21.

All businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate in Industry Appreciation Day.
