Pressure gauge testing available

The Cooperative Extension Service has free pressure canner dial gauge testing available from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today through Friday at its office at 43961 Kalifornsky Beach Road. It is in the Doors and Windows building. For more information, call 262-5824.

Disabled veterans to meet

The Disabled American Veterans will meet at 6 p.m. today at the American Legion bingo hall. The topic of discussion will be the proposed veterans home. For more information, call Glenn at 283-4359.

SoHi cheerleading tryouts set

Water laboratory to open in Homer

Cook Inlet Keeper will hold a grand opening and dedication of the new community-based water quality laboratory from 6 to 9 p.m. July 22 at the Kachemak Bay Conservation Center at 3734 Ben Walters Lane in Homer. Community members are asked to bring a potluck dish to share. Participants will tour the new lab and have an opportunity to express their opinions on the future of water monitoring and research in Cook Inlet. Childbirth, safe sitter course offered

Central Peninsula General Hospital will offer childbirth classes from 6 to 10 p.m. July 23 and from 2 to 6 p.m. July 24. The cost is $75 and must be paid in advance.

A six-week session on childbirth will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday beginning Aug. 4. The cost is $75. For more information or to register for either class, call 714-4788.

The hospital also will offer Safe Sitter classes from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug 19 and 20. Participants must be at least 11 at the time of class and must be preregistered. The cost is $50. For more information, call Michelle McKay at 714-4775.
