The American Legion Twins baseball team finished up its road trip with a win, defeating the Fairbanks 49ers 7-1 Thursday in Fairbanks.
With the win, the Twins improve to 22-9 this season and clinch the top seed for the upcoming district tournament, slated to begin July 23 at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.
The Twins next take the field when they visit Chugiak Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader.
In Thursday's game, Jeff Kennedy earned the win and Steve Mabeus pitched two innings of relief. The duo combined to two-hit the 49ers.
Twins coach John Kennedy said his squad played an all-around solid game.
"From our perspective, it was a fantastic game," Kennedy said. "Take away one miscue and one walk, and we shut them out. We were diving for balls we did everything today. We just executed really well today."
Justin Simpson, Erich Simpson and Cole Chappell each hit doubles for the Twins, while a pair of sacrifice bunts by Scott Foster led to three Twins runs.
"My hats off to the kids. They just played an outstanding game," Kennedy said.
