Hula group incorporates patriotic songs

Posted: Thursday, July 15, 2010

Ever since 2004, when the Kenai Chamber of Commerce gave us the privilege of performing at the park after the super Fourth of July parade. Our dance groups enjoyed participating with hula and we included patriotic songs. This year, Na Manu Olu opened at Noon with five hula songs. Then Pua Mae Ole performed five numbers: God Bless America, God Bless The U.S.A., In God We Trust, We are The Children of America and You've got a Friend. Both groups closed our 45-minute performance with a hula called You May Go.

We're usually No. 2 to perform after the parade and that is around 2 p.m. This year, the parade started later so we went on when the picnic opened this year but still in the No. 2 spot at Noon. For those of you who do like the patriotic songs, watch for us next year. We're adding The Star Spangled Banner to our selections. Thank you.
