KODIAK (AP) -- The skipper of a Bristol Bay fishing boat has drowned after falling off his vessel, state troopers said Thursday.
Michael Kasten, 43, of Dillingham fell over the rail of the 32-foot fishing boat Skeezix on Wednesday night while fishing with two crewmen in Nushagak Bay, troopers said.
The crewmen pulled Kasten from the water and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but weren't able to revive him. Kasten was not wearing a lifevest, troopers said.
Kasten's remains will be taken to Anchorage for autopsy.
Troopers are still investigating the case. They said Thursday that it appears that Kasten had been drinking.
