Twins split with Dimond

The American Legion Post 20 Peninsula Twins split a doubleheader with Dimond at Coral Seymour Memorial Park Sunday to move their record to 18-19 overall.

The Twins dropped the first game 8-4 with their normal lineup in place. Then, when they were short on pitching and had a different lineup in place, the Twins came back to beat Dimond 11-1 in a run-rule shortened game in the second contest.

"I'm at a loss for words to explain how we came back and won the second game after losing the first," Twins manager Lance Coz said. "I guess it's because we were playing harder and with more emotion."

Dominic Plasencia helped the Twins out on the mound in the second game, picking up the win after allowing one run in five innings of work.

Meanwhile, Eric Newby had the big blow at the plate with a three-RBI double. The Twins collected just six hits in the game, but were able to score at will by executing on offense with things like sacrifice bunts.

Aaron Hughes took the loss for Post 20 in the first game. Eric Newby had two hits in the game for the Twins.

The Twins play today at 6 p.m. at Coral Seymour Memorial Park against district foe Juneau. The game is important because if the Twins win their remaining two district games against Juneau and one against Homer, they obtain a bye in the first round of the district tournament and an automatic berth to the state tournament.
