Sockeye salmon count classic under way

The Sterling Senior Citizens Center presents its sixth annual Kenai River Sockeye Salmon Count Classic. Guess the number of sockeye salmon that cross the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's fish counter as of noon Aug. 7. Half the money from tickets will be given out in prizes. The closest guess receives 75 percent of the pot, the second closest gets 15 percent, and third closest gets 10 percent. Tickets are $2. The deadline for entries is July 31. Prizes will be awarded Aug. 24. Call 262-6808 for more information.

Summer bazaar planned

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center's summer bazaar is July 26 and 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a wide selection of crafts, baked goods, jams, jellies and a festive lunch menu. For more information, call 262-2322.

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center Endowment Board of Trustees barbecue fund-raiser will be July 27 from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a barbecue with a wool spinning display, a petting zoo and entertainment.

Forget-Me-Not Care Center

Every day: Newspaper and discussion group from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Brain challenge games from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Exercise group from 11:30 to noon. Lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. Floor games from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Art activities from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Short stories or film clips from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Depart at 2:30 p.m.

Thursday: Outing to the park for a picnic

Monday: Fellowship and pinochle at 1 p.m., snack and trivia at 2 p.m., exercise at 2:30 p.m.


Today: Tai chi at 9 a.m., TOPS at 9:45 a.m., bridge at 12:35 p.m., bowling and Japanese dance class at 1 p.m.
