Soldotna teen reports abduction attempt

Police are on the lookout for a man with red hair and a red beard, who reportedly attempted to abduct a 13-year-old girl from behind a Soldotna business strip Monday night.

According to police, at about 9 p.m., the man, who was driving a maroon four-door sedan with Alaska centennial license plates, asked the girl if she wanted "to make some easy money."

The girl sped home on her bicycle and told her father, who immediately called police.

Alaska State Troopers and Soldotna police saturated the area behind the Insurance Place and Jo-Ann Fabrics on Kenai Spur Highway searching for the suspect but were unable to find him, according to Soldotna Police Chief Shirley Gifford.

"Parents should be aware of the incident and know that these kinds of things can happen anywhere," Gifford said.

She also commended the girl on her actions.

"She did exactly the right thing," Gifford said. "Don't talk to the person, get home and tell your parents and call police."

In another incident involving a stranger and juveniles, Soldotna police received a report Friday afternoon that a male between 24 and 25 years old allegedly exposed himself to two juvenile females and one juvenile male near Redoubt Elementary School.

The man was reported to be wearing white shorts, a gray shirt and a blue hat. The juveniles were not able to see the color of his hair because of the hat.

Police searched the area, but no suspect was found.

Anyone with additional information about either of these incidents is asked to call police at 262-4455.
