Todd Eskelin carded a 7-over-par 77 in the first round of the 33rd annual Peninsula Amateur Golf Championship at Birch Ridge to take the lead in the tournament, while Lisa Parker turned in a round of 86 to take the women’s lead.
The Peninsula Amateur, the longest running individual golf tournament on the Kenai Peninsula, is a two-day event. Golfers had to complete their first round on either Friday or Saturday with a co-player in the tournament. The final round is today.
Eskelin enters the final round with a four-shot lead on Bob Sizemore and Justin Herman and a five-shot lead on Josh Lansing. Lansing is the defending champion at the event.
Parker holds a three-shot lead over Paula Crowley and a five-shot lead over Kathy Herring.

In the first flight, Darell Jelsma had an 82 to take an eight-stroke lead over George Stein and Mick Reeve. In the second flight, Gary Dawkins had a 98 to take a five-stroke lead over Dave Stein.

Dahlgren has top round at Senior Open
John Dahlgren fired a 10-over-par 82 on Saturday to take the lead after the first day of the two-day Butch Anderson Senior Open at the Kenai Golf Course.
Billy Applewhite was a stroke off of the lead after an 83, while Gordon Griffin and Ken Liedes had rounds of 84 and Jesse Wade had a round of 85.
The tournament continues today at Kenai Golf Course.
