Twins drop 2 to South

The American Legion Twins were swept in a doubleheader by South on Sunday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.

The Twins lost the first game 15-5 in seven innings due to the mercy rule, then lost the second game 6-4.

"Even though on Saturday we won both games, we didn't play well in the second ballgame," Twins manager John Butler said. "I thought the guys would be fired up and ready to go because South is one of the teams we will have to beat at the state tournament. Instead, we came out and made a lot of errors."

The Twins had seven errors in the first game and South had 12 hits. Larsen Kohler took the loss. Steven Mabeus was 2-for-3 with two runs, Jake Lamphier was 2-for-4 and Luke Gilbert was 2-for-4 with a run.

In the second game, the Twins again committed a couple of costly errors and stuck Lamphier with the loss.

"What was really bad about this one is that Jake Lamphier pitched an outstanding ballgame," Butler said. "Of those six runs scored on him, three were earned. It's a shame we had a pitching performance like that and didn't take advantage of it. We needed a key hit and we just didn't come through when we needed it."

Ethan Waters and Kristopher Netschert finished 2-for-4 in the game for the Twins.
