KETCHIKAN (AP) -- A 29-year-old Ketchikan man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his roommate.
Manuel Ortega is charged in the death Sunday of Ruben D. Cabrera in the men's home.
Ketchikan police learned of Cabrera's death when an emergency call came through at about 3 a.m. Sunday, police reported. Ortega was taken into custody about four hours later.
Officers believe Ortega and Cabrera had a fight early Sunday morning, which police said led to Cabrera's death.
Deputy Chief David Guzman said in a telephone interview that the victim's injuries were consistent with a fight, and that no weapons were used. According to police, Ortega admitted fighting with his roommate.
An autopsy has been ordered.
Guzman said the men recently moved to Ketchikan from California.
