Idaho squad defeats Twins

Posted: Wednesday, July 17, 2002

The American Legion Post 20 Twins baseball team dropped a 15-5 decision to the Rangers from Meridian, Idaho, Tuesday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.

Twins manager Lance Coz said the visiting Rangers were one of the best teams the Twins have faced this season.

"They did all the little things right," Coz said.

Among those things was running hard even on a pop-up, which netted the Rangers a pair of runs when a pop-up was muffed by the Twins with two outs in the first inning.

The Rangers totaled four runs in the first inning, then added four more in the fifth, four in the eighth and three in the ninth.

"We did not play our best game. Just about anybody would have been competitive with us today," Coz said.

The Twins got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the second. Ely Evanson had the big hit of the inning with a two-run double.

Eric Newby followed Kyle Foster's one-out single in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI triple and scored on a groundout by Bud Baun.

Cory Janson singled and scored in the bottom of the seventh inning on a groundout by Eric Newby.

Evanson went four innings on the mound for the Twins and was relieved Corey Grimm.

The Twins visit Anchorage today to play Dimond. Post 20's next home game is a Saturday doubleheader against Service starting at 12:30 p.m. at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.
