Free seminar on 'Trusts vs. Wills' offered tonight

There will be a free seminar on "Trusts vs. Wills" at 7 tonight at the Aspen Hotel in Soldotna. The seminar will be presented by the law office of Ryan R. Roley working in consultation with Alaskan Estate Trusts Ltd.

The seminar will include the following subjects: why you want to avoid probate, AARP's two-year study of probate by attorneys, avoiding probate in every state where you own real property, preserving both spouses' estate tax exemption and sheltering distributions to children.

Refreshments will be served. The seminar and materials are free.

Subway's Jared to visit Soldotna

Jared Fogle, the man who lost 245 pounds eating Subway sandwiches, is coming to the Soldotna store July 25.

The public is invited to meet Fogle in person from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the store in the Peninsula Center Mall on the Sterling Highway.

Fogle currently can be seen nationally in television commercials for Subway and has been touring the country promoting Subway, the American Heart Association and his involvement in many Heart Walks. He will be accompanied by his wife, Elizabeth, who has appeared in Subway commercials with her husband.

Those who stop at Subway during Fogle's visit can enter to win $25,000 as part of a company promotion.

Training with expert in organization results offered

The Southcentral Chapters of the American Society for Training and Development and Society for Human Resource Managers will offer two training opportunities this month.

On July 24, there will be a joint SHRM and ASTD luncheon, featuring Dr. Brent Peterson, who will present an overview on the five levels of measurement for training. The lunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, at Tudor and C in Anchorage. Cost is $18 for ASTD and SHRM members and $22 for nonmembers. On July 31, Peterson will return for a full day workshop entitled "Impact Analysis: Evaluating the Link Between Organization Learning and Bottom-Line Results."
