Hobo Jim set to strum

Hobo Jim, "Alaska's balladeer," will perform a free concert at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center.

Nutrition class serves up information

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will offer free nutrition classes "Putting Local Food Resources to Work" on Wednesdays for seven weeks from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the food bank at 33955 Community College Drive in Soldotna.

The classes will be taught by Colleen Sonnevil of the Cooperative Extension. For more information, call 262-3111.

Social Security reps to visit peninsula

The Social Security Administration makes monthly visits to the peninsula at the following times: first Tuesday of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kenai City Hall; third Thursday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Homer Senior Citizens Center; and the third Friday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Seward City Hall.

Golf tourney fundraiser set to swing

The American Red Cross will host its 16th annual American Red Cross Golf tournament July 28 at the Bird Homestead Golf Course. For more information, call Annette Hakkinen at 283-4556.

Seniors plan summer bazaar

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will hold its annual summer bazaar, bake sale and quilt show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 27 and 28 at the center. Crafts and baked goods will be available. The center also will hold its endowment trust fund barbecue from noon to 3 p.m. July 28. Barbecue, live music, a motorcycle display and wool spinning exhibit are some of the planned events.

Disk golf tourney takes flight

Cancer Survivors on Mount Aspiring will host a disc golf tournament from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Kenai Eagle Disc Golf Course. Funds will help send youth affected by cancer to camp. Individuals or teams of four may play. Hole sponsors also are being sought. Other activities will include food and music. Prizes will be awarded.
