Junior Golf Championship slated for Birch Ridge

The third annual Junior Golf Championship will be Thursday at Birch Ridge Golf Course. The cost is $20 and the tournament will start at 8:30 a.m.

Ages 8 to 12 will play 18 holes from the red tees, ages 13 to 14 will play 18 holes from the white tees and ages 15 to 17 will play 18 holes from the blue tees.

Players can register at Birch Ridge up until 8 a.m. Thursday. Players also can call 262-5270 to register.

Kenai Little League fares well at tourneys

Six teams, three of which placed in the top three, represented Kenai at the Alaska District 1 Little League Tournaments in Anchorage.

The boys senior team was cruising through the bracket until it lost to Valdez. The team then advanced through the losers bracket until losing to Valdez in the championship game. Kenai still ended up with the good sportsmanship award and manager Eddie Castillo was named the best manager at the tournament.

The girls junior softball team from Kenai placed third at its tournament, with manager Karen Calderwood nabbing the award for the tournaments best manager.

Finally, the girls major softball team from Kenai placed second.
