The Peninsula Oilers led from start to finish Sunday, earning a 5-2 win and three-game sweep of the Anchorage Bucs at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.
The sweep was the second in the past three series for the Oilers, who have won four straight heading into the final eight games of the year.
Oilers leadoff hitter Rocky Laguna got things going early, singling to right field. Laguna moved to third base on a bunt by Ryan Gipson. Laguna later scored the first run of the game when Gipson got caught in a run-down between first and second base.
The Oilers added two runs in the fourth inning, getting timely two-out hits from Nick Kliebert, Jared McGuire, Jake Khaulelio and Ryan Scutchfield.
The Bucs finally got to Oilers starter Dave Pellegrine in the fifth, scoring one run to cut the lead to 3-1.
Peninsula struck back in the bottom half of the inning when Matt Inouye's single plated Chad Tracy.
Pellegrine was impressive on the day, giving up just one run on four hits in six innings for his fourth win of the year.
Anchorage scratched out its final run of the game off reliever Chuck Rider in the eighth inning. Rider was replaced by Chase Christianson, who pitched the final two innings to pick up the save.
McGuire added an insurance run for the Oilers in the bottom half of the eighth, taking Bucs reliever Dominique Foster's first pitch over the left field wall for a solo home run.
Next up for the Oilers is a 6-game road trip against the Bucs, Anchorage Glacier Pilots and Mat-Su Miners. Peninsula then returns to finish out the regular season at home with two games against the Miners on July 27 and 28.
