Class of 1985 reunion planned

Soldotna High School class of 1985 will hold its 20th class reunion at 7 p.m. Friday at Sockeye's at Kenai Landing on Cannery Road. There will be a picnic at 1 p.m. Sunday at the softball fields at the Green Strip Park in Kenai. Participants are asked to bring side dishes and drinks. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. Challenger center sets July events

The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai will host a variety of activities. For more information, call 283-2000.

Young Astronauts Camp — A day camp that features hands-on activities offered from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. Campers can register for any combination of days. Tuesdays focuses on robotics and simple machines and Thursday features rocketry and flight. For children ages 7-9. The cost is $20 per day.

Cosmic Adventure Camp — Week-long residential camps are held now through Aug. 12. Camps feature hands-on, minds-on activities in math, science, launching rockets, robotics and astronomy.

Groups will work together to construct a project underwater at an area pool. Campers sleep in space dorms. There will be different programs for each week. For children ages 10-15. The cost is $300 per week.

Social Security reps to visit area

Social Security Administration representatives will be on the Kenai Peninsula from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Seward City Hall; from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Kenai City Hall; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Homer Senior Citizens Center. Volksmarch 10K continue

The Anchorage Volkssport Club will host volksmarches (10 kilometer walks) daily through Sept. 30 at the Kenai Subway. A volksmarch is a noncompetitive walk designed to encourage walking for health.

Participants may ask for a map and instructions from the Anchorage Volkssport Club box behind the counter at Subway during the stores hours. The event and supplies are free, though stamps for International Volksmarch books and distance credits cost $3.

Women's run seeking volunteers

The LeeShore Center is seeking volunteers for its 18th annual Kenai Peninsula Run for Women on Aug. 13. Volunteers are need to staff water tables, serve lunch and oversee safety along the race route. Safety volunteers will need to take a short flagging course at the Kenai Police Department a few days prior to the run. For more information or to volunteer, call 283-9479.
