Houglum named to president's list

Former Soldotna resident Daniel P. Houglum was named to the president's list at Gonzaga University. To be named to the list students must earn a 3.7 or higher grade point average.

He is a senior studying performance and music education. He also has studied in Florence, Italy, with a concert pianist.

Area students receive scholarships

The following students received a National Scholar-Athlete award from the United States Army Reserve:

Kenai Central High School — Michael Scheffert and Rochelle Stretch;

Nikiski Middle-Senior High School — Benjamin Kellie and Whitney Hitchcock;

Nikolaevsk School — Anecta Kalugin and Sonia Reutov;

Seward High School — Matthew Atkinson-Adams and Lara Loomis; and

Skyview High School — Noah King and Virginia Berg.

Area students named to honor roll

The following students were named to the honor roll at Oregon State University in Corvallis:

Former Kasilof resident Zachariah R. Reilly received a 4.0 grade point average. He is a senior studying civil engineering; and

Former Soldotna resident Mark D. Wackler received at 3.5 grade point average. He is a senior studying fisheries and wildlife science.

Todd travels to England

Former Soldotna resident Navy Seaman Tim Z. Todd participated in Trafalgar 200 commemorative events and also participated in the International Fleet Review, which included more than 160 ships from more than 36 of the world's navies in Portsmouth, England, while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Saipan. His home port is in Norfolk, Va.

The event commemorates Admiral Lord Nelson and the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

He is the son of Connie S. Todd. Todd joined the Navy in February 2004.

Area students graduate college

Former Kenai resident Meagan Schmidt graduated cum laude from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in May. She earned a bachelor's degree in television and motion pictures and will work in film production.

She is the daughter of Steve and Lucie Stanton.

Former Kenai resident Laura Krusen graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash. She received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and minors in anthropology and dance.

She is the daughter of Rebecca Lambourn of Kenai and Leslie Krusen of Houston.

Former Soldotna resident Tara Lynn Cutting graduated magna cum laude in May from the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Fredonia. She received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and a minor in biology.

While at school she was awarded the Psi Chi (psychology honors) and liberal arts honors.

She is the daughter of former Soldotna residents Glenn and Carla Cutting and is a 2000 graduate of Soldotna High School.

Former Soldotna resident William Keith Atwood graduated from Eastern Oregon University on June 11.
