Cherril L. Allen

Longtime Sterling resident Cherril L. Allen died Thursday, July 13, 2006, after a short illness at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage. She was 71.

Private memorial services will be held by the family for Richard and Cherril Allen at a later date.

Mrs. Allen was born Jan. 9, 1935, to William and Joyce Whitman in Flint, Mich. She moved to Reed City, Mich., with her parents when she was a child. She graduated from high school in 1953 and married Richard Allen on Dec. 12, 1953. The couple had three children and lived in Chase, Mich., for several years before moving to Alaska in 1970. They were married for 52 years.

“Mom’s greatest joy was making a home for her family. She had the gift of taking any house and making it into a home. She loved to cook and always had enough to feed everyone, including any drop-in guests. It was wonderful coming home from school or a day of ice fishing to find homemade soup, bread and goodies at the end of our day. She also loved to read and listen to music, take rides to see the mountains and eagles and babies. All children called her ‘Grandma.’ We loved her and will miss her greatly,” her family said.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in January; son, Danny Allen; parents; brother, Ronnie; and sister, Susie.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shawn and Ken Robertson of Soldotna; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Bonnie Allen of Soldotna; brothers, Jerry Whitman and wife, Jeanette, of Olympia, Wash., Tim McMullen and wife, Carole, of Reed City and Patrick McMullen of Reed City; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
