Kenai City Manager Rick Koch has named Gus Sandahl Kenai's acting chief of police.
"We have a strong veteran crew," said Sandahl, who took over as police chief Wednesday at 8 a.m. "Even though this is our busiest time, department operations are flowing smoothly due to our hard-working, highly competent officers."
According to Koch, Sandahl will act as police chief for the next 60 days while he searches for a replacement for former chief, Chuck Kopp, who stepped down to become commissioner of the state Department of Public Safety.
"I wanted the opportunity to see Gus perform in that role," said Koch. "I feel fortunate that we have such a highly qualified police department. It will be a seamless transition to new police chief," he said.
