Memorial golf tourney set

The Kenai Golf Association will hold its annual Donald Morgan Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The tournament is an opportunity for association members to share golf fellowship and remember Morgan for what he did for golf in the area.

On Saturday the group will share cake with the Morgan family and Sunday it will have its traditional association barbecue at the awards ceremony.

There will be a grand prize drawing for a 2009 season pass and for a 2009 driving range pass. For more information, call 283-7500.

Scleroderma picnic set

Family, friends and caregivers of those with scleroderma are invited to a picnic from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Trail River Campground at Mile 24.5 of the Seward Highway, turn right a Trail River Road, if you pass Crown Point Bed and Breakfast you have passed the turn. Events will include a short group activity, pot luck (there is a large grill under a roofed area), volleyball and horse shoe games, modified baseball ( bring reachers ), and a campfire (bring marshmallows.) The event is handicapped accessible, a slide for children will be available and participants are asked to bring a chair if possible. For more information, call Sherry at 907-224-2520.

Bazaar, bake sale, quilt show slated

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will hold its annual summer bazaar, bake sale and quilt show will from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 25 and 26. A selection of crafts, baked goods, lunch menu and quilts will be available. For information call 262-2322.

Rotary Club garage sale set

The Kenai River Rotary Club will hold a garage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 26 at the dentistry office of Dr. Jerry Hu at 125 N. Binkley Street.

Funds raised will be placed in the Kenai Peninsula Foundation where a donor advised fund has been created to benefit Soldotna area elementary music programming by offering grants to build existing programs and provide opportunities for artists in residence. Swim lessons make a splash

The Kenai High School pool will hold swim lessons with Red Cross certified instructors. Lessons are eight days for 40 minutes. Lesson dates are July 29 through Aug. 8. Preregistration is required.

Lesson times available are 9 to 9:40 a.m.; 9:45 to 10:25 a.m.; 10:30 to 11:10 a.m.; 11:15 to 11:55 a.m.; 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. (3- and 4-year-olds); and private lessons noon to 12:30 p.m. and 3 to 3:30 p.m. (Monday through July 18). Pool rentals are available. Pool fees are $40 for lessons; $4 for lap or open swim; $35 for a 10-punch card; and $15 for private lessons. For more information, call 283-7476.

Caregiver meeting planned

The National Family Caregivers Support Program will hold a caregiver peer support meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. July 29 at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center. The support program training offers CEUs. The Friends of the Kenai Community Library board of directors are taking applications for community members interested in working with the board for the benefit of the community. Application are available at the library.

Chamber seeks green thumbs

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce and city of Kenai Parks and Recreation are requesting nominations for the Green Thumb Award, formerly known as the Garden of the Week.

Recipients of the award will be recognized for their beautification efforts at their residence and/or business in Kenai. Nominations should be submitted through the Kenai Chamber of Commerce or the City of Kenai Parks and Recreation Department and are being accepted through September.
