by Carol Ford
Sure and sudden
Like an old friend
Tender and fresh,
Sweet and strong,
Long dead and silent,
Bursts its icy bonds
And ? overnight ?
Brews its rich, loamy,
Mosses green and bask,
Yawn and stretch
And settle into lacy coverlets
In a wild cacophony
Of passerine passion
That shouts its busy, joyful symphonyv
Rainbow smacks the surface of glass
And flies clear out,
Then dives deep down.
Loon shatters the twilight silence
With her wild yodel,
And with her haunting, primordial tremolo,
Shakes the very foundations on time.
