Digital video class to be offered
Soldotna Community Schools will offer a digital video production class with Paul Gray of the Exploring Alaska Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 2 to 6 at the Kenai River Center. The class fee is $600, with an initial nonrefundable fee of $200 due last Thursday and the remaining $400 due July 26.
Registration forms are available at the Soldotna and Kenai libraries and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District central office. Forms should be completed and returned to Soldotna Community Schools, c/o/ KPBSD, 148 N. Binkley, Soldotna, AK 99669.

Youth help out in Homer
Students with Interlocken Youth will be in Homer for one month providing community service as part of a "friendship exchange." The youth will work with the Kachemak Heritage Land Trust for three days and four nights, today through Thursday. They will be limbing, lopping, hauling and planting at the renovation site for the Trust's new headquarters.
Summer bazaar, barbecue planned
The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will hold a summer bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the center. Crafts, a bake sale and a quilt display are planned. There will be a festive lunch menu planned.
The center's Progress Days endowment fund barbecue will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chili and other menu items will be available. For more information, call 262-2322.
Chess camp, tourney slated
The Alaska Chess League will host a chess camp and tournament this weekend at the Old Town Village Restaurant in Kenai.
The free one-day chess camp for beginning players will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday. A master exhibition will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $5.
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a chess tournament. Registration will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Rounds will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The cost is $50, including a lunch buffet both days, or $30 without lunches.
