DAV meeting canceled

Community run slated

The annual 5-kilometer Everything But the Red Run will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Tsalteshi Trails at Skyview High School in Soldotna. Registration begins at 5 p.m. Proceeds will benefit trail maintenance.

Swim lessons to make a splash

The Soldotna High School pool swim lessons will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m. daily. Lessons will consist of 10 40-minute sessions for levels two through five and 10 25-minute lessons for level one. The final session begins Monday. The cost for lessons is $40 per session or $10 per hour for private lessons. For more information, call 262-7419.

Horses’ role in treatments discussed

The Kenai Community Library will host a presentation by Laurie Nelson titled “Using Horses as Intervention for Mental Health Concerns” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday in the conference room. For more information, call 283-4378.

CPCS board of directors to meet

The Central Peninsula Counseling Services board of directors will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at 506 Lake St. in Kenai. For more information, call 260-3691.

Friends have book sale covered

The Friends of the Kenai Community Library will hold its annual book sale July 28 and 29 at the library. The presale for Friends members will be from 5 to 8 p.m. July 27. The public sale will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 28 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 29.

Sterling seniors counting on good fundraiser

The Sterling Senior Center is holding its annual Kenai River Sockeye Salmon Count Classic fundraiser. Tickets are $2 each to guess the number of sockeyes that cross the Fish and Game counter as of noon Aug. 10. Half of the proceeds will be divvied up between the three closest guesses.

The deadline to buy tickets is 5 p.m. July 28. Tickets are available at the Soldotna and Kenai Tesoro stations, Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, in Sterling at the Great Alaska Fish Camp, Bing Brown’s, Merkes RV Park and Moose River Auto, and in Nikiski from Dee Rappe at Delaires.
