Moto-cross races to be held at Soldotna airport

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions will hold state races at the Soldotna airport Saturday and Sunday. Signup starts at 9 a.m. Races start at 10 a.m. and run until 6 p.m. Gate fees are $5 per person.

Soldotna library sponsors used book sale

The Soldotna Public Library is sponsoring a used book sale during Soldotna Progress Days. The sale will be held Saturday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. The library will not open the doors until 1:30 p.m. Books, puzzles and videos will be for sale. Proceeds will benefit the children's summer reading programs.

Fish studies, Russian creme featured in programs

The Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center's Science on the Kenai program will host Doug Palmer of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Kenai Fishery Resource Office on Monday. He will give a slide presentation on population studies of rainbow trout and Dolly Varden char on the upper Kenai River, explaining how tracking devices are inserted into fish and how their movements are recorded throughout the rest of the season.

On Wednesday, Artists on the Kenai will feature Charlotte Legg of Charlotte's Cafe in a demonstration on how to prepare her well-known Russian Creme dessert with fresh strawberries. Both programs start at 3 p.m. and last 45 minutes to one hour. Admission is free.

Watershed Forum walk looks at fisheries

The Kenai Watershed Forum will hold a walk with the theme, "Kenai River Fisheries Management," on Wednesday. Retired sport fish management biologist Dave Athons will discuss fish runs, fisheries management and habitat issues of the Kenai River.

The walk begins at 1 p.m. at the pavilion area of Soldotna Creek Park. It is free but donations are welcome. Dress for the outdoors. All walks are one- to two-hours long. For directions or more information, call Kelly or Robert at 260-5449.

Free physicals offered for Homer athletes

Free athletic physicals will be provided by Kachemak Bay Sports Medicine and Orthopedics and local volunteers on July 27 at 7 p.m. in the Homer High School commons. An athletic physical is mandatory to participate in athletics for the upcoming school year.

This event also will include a preseason look at the upcoming athletic year, led by new activities director Chris Perk at 7:30 in the Mariner Theater. Topics will include fall coaches' introductions, athletic policies, guidelines and requirements. All parents of Mariner athletes are urged to participate.

Homer Class of 1980 plans reunion

Homer High School's Class of 1980 will hold its 20th reunion July 28-30. For more information, call Dee Dee at (907) 235-7237.

Kenai, Nikiski class reunion slated

There will be a class reunion for the 1990 graduates of Kenai and Nikiski high schools July 28-30. Any classmates who haven't received information regarding the reunion should call Peggy at 283-2072 or Jolynne at 776-5131.
