The American Legion Twins baseball team dropped a pair of games to the East Thunderbirds in Anchorage Saturday.
East took the first game, a nine-inning affair, 8-5, then won the second, seven-inning game with a run in the final inning, 7-6.
In the first game, the Twins were able to build a 5-2 lead through the first six innings of play. The Twins scored three runs in the top of the third inning. Kyle Foster single to lead off the inning, but was eventually cut down at the plate.
Nick Weigle reached on a fielder's choice, though, and Robby Rounsaville followed with a single to load the bases.
After the Twins hit into a double play, with East nipping Foster at the plate, Jacob Madrid drew a walk to load the bases again, and Zack Hicks delivered a two-run single. Brett Toering followed and also was credited with an RBI.
Toering provided the big blast in the Twin's two-run fifth, driving in a pair of runs with a triple.
East rallied for two runs in the seventh, though, and took the lead with four runs in the eighth.
The Twins battled with the Thunderbirds in game two. Brian Tweedy singled to drive in a run in the second, and the Twins scored three in the fourth with Erich Simpson and Tweedy hitting RBI singles.
Simpson also connected for an RBI double in the sixth, and the Twins scored a run in the top of the seventh to tie the game when Madrid led off with a walk, advanced on a bunt hit by Hicks and a sacrifice bunt by Simpson, then scored on a wild pitch.
