Progress Days parade travels down Binkley

Posted: Friday, July 21, 2000

The 40th annual Soldotna Progress Days parade will follow Binkley Street this year, the same route used the past three years.

Participants must have parade applications, available free from the chamber of commerce office at 262-9814. Anyone parading should line up at 9 a.m. Saturday on Aspen Street.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. It will go from Aspen a short distance on Marydale Avenue to Binkley, then follow Binkley south to Wilson Lane across from Safeway. It will end at the corner of Wilson and Warehouse Road. Judging will take place as the parade passes the reviewing stand in front of the Borough Building.

Ribbons will be awarded for first and second places in each category, and there will be one grand overall ribbon. Winners will be honored afterward at the vendor site by the Peninsula Center Mall.

Merchants will have booths set up in the parking lot at the mall's east end and open from 12:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Attractions include the U.S. Air Force Band Top Cover from Elmendorf, remote control miniature racing cars, bungee jumping, Don the Magician, a crafts bazaar, food and more.

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce had not announced the grand marshal of the parade by this publication's press time.
