FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A North Pole man has been indicted by a grand jury on a first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of a 16-year-old girl at his home last week.
Ernest G. Elizardo, 27, was indicted Wednesday.
Jenny Cullen, also of North Pole was shot in the head July 9. Alaska State Troopers investigating the incident said they initially thought Elizardo had unintentionally shot her while handling his .357-caliber revolver at his residence. However, troopers arrested Elizardo on first-degree murder charges the next day.
Sgt. Ron Wall said Thursday troopers are still investigating the incident. He would not discuss details of the shooting, a possible motive or what precisely led investigators to change their minds.
''We still have evidence that has to be forwarded to the crime lab, and that's a lengthy process,'' Wall said.
Elizardo is being held at Fairbanks Correctional Center on $350,000 bail.
