BIG LAKE (AP) A 49-year-old man died in an accident early Sunday morning between Palmer and Big Lake.

George Michael Newsham of Anchorage was a passenger in a truck that crashed into another truck on Knik-Goose Bay Road, troopers said.

A 1992 black Ford pickup driven by Emory Evern, 27, of Anchorage, crashed head-on into a 1991 Toyota truck driven by Lloyd Helms, 27, also of Anchorage, troopers said.

Both drivers were taken to Valley Hospital with injuries.

There were two passengers in Helms' truck. The other passenger, Marianne Beckham, 50, of Anchorage, was hospitalized at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

Troopers said Evern may have been drinking alcohol.
