Medicaid cuts threaten letter writer's independence

Posted: Monday, July 21, 2003

I am writing in regards to the Medicaid cuts in my home care. These cuts will affect me in areas I can't take for granted. Even though I have cerebral palsy and am mentally able to run my life, I am not physically able to take care of myself.

If I have an asthma attack and no one is here to give me my inhaler that will be very scary! I can't use my hands. If I need to go to the bathroom, I will not be able to go by myself and will be forced to wear diapers because no one is here to help me.

I do not take these services for granted. I love my independence. Please help me keep my independence. Putting me in a nursing home will be more expensive than living on my own.
