Soldotna seniors schedule bazaar, barbecue

The Soldotna Senior Citizen Center will hold a summer bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Crafts, baked goods, jams and jellies will be offered. Also a display of quilts and antiques will be available for viewing.

A barbecue fund-raiser for the senior endowment fund will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday on Park Avenue. For more information, call 262-2322.

SoHi pool begins final session

The Soldotna High School pool's final swim session will begin July 28 and end Aug. 8. Cost for the 10, 30-minute classes is $40. Preregistration is recommended.

The pool's new open swim times are 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For more information and a complete list of what the pool has to offer, call 262-7419.

KCHS to hold cheerleader tryouts

Kenai Central High School will hold cheerleader tryouts at 7 p.m. July 28 at the KCHS football field. For more information, call 398-7875 or 776-5110.

Moose Lodge plans picnic

The Peninsula Moose Lodge and Family Center will hold its annual picnic at 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at the lodge in Kenai. It is for members and their guests. Music, pony rides and a dino fun jump are some of the planned activities. Participants are asked to bring a dessert or side dish to share. Meat will be provided. Annual Run for Women set

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center is planning its 16th annual Kenai Peninsula Run for Women on Aug. 9. Registration forms can be picked up at the center in Kenai, the Alaska Clubs and REI in Anchorage. Forms also are available online at

Volunteers are needed to hang posters, attend water tables and direct traffic along the route. A short flagging school course at the Kenai Police Department is required prior to the race. For more information, call Barbara at 283-9479.

Residents needed to apply for CPHC board

Central Peninsula Health Centers Inc. is looking for interested community members to apply for a seat on the board of directors. At least 51 percent of board members must be consumers or have family members who are consumers of CPHC services. CPHC is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide quality health care regardless of the ability to pay.

Soldotna church plans Bible school

The Soldotna Church of the Nazarene will hold its vacation Bible school from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 11-15 at the church at 229 E. Beluga. The school is for children ages 3 through sixth grade. There is no fee. For more information, call 262-4660.

Help available for home day-care providers

Family day-care providers in the central Kenai Peninsula area and wanting to be reimbursed for part of the cost of food served should call the Child Care Food Program at 283-4707.
