Staying afloat

Posted: Monday, July 21, 2003

Bill and Darlene Moran, owners of Dot's Fish Camp, pose with a new Kids Don't Float board on their property. The board is the first to be placed at a private boat ramp on the Kenai Peninsula. The boards, which are located at various public boating ramps around the peninsula, provide child-sized life jackets for boaters to borrow.

The site for the new board was chosen by Scott Feldmann of the U.S. Coast Guard, who organized the installation of the board. Bill Berkhahn of Alaska State Parks donated the sign, and Dave Mayfield of United Rentals donated a power auger to dig the necessary post holes. Chris Ellison of the U.S. Coast Guard and private citizen Frank Kufel donated labor.
